Barfy at the abandoned city of Fatehpur Sikri, Rajasthan, India
Excerpt from Joel's Travel Log:
"I've been suffering from a canker sore for the last few days, one of those pesky ones on the back of the tongue that makes me cry even more than I normally do when I'm eating the spicy stuff down here. I didn't have any disinfectant or anything so it was time for some frontier medicine. I grabbed my bottle of scotch and some tissue to swab and went to work on it. Oh sweet baby Jesus that hurt. I cried, I drooled on myself, I swore, it was like a soap opera set in a dentist office.
To top all this off, we find out that our water isn't working. That's not good. Especially when you've gotta use the bathroom. Ben really had to go and got creative. He was ferrying water in bottles from the big container in the kitchen to fill the back of the toilet up. I was too busy mutilating my tongue to really notice the drought. That is, until this morning... when it was still off. If I were back home, I'd be outraged and go yell at someone, but I figure here it's just kinda the norm. There have regularly been rolling blackouts that have turned everything off. Well this morning posed some interesting problems, mainly bathing. I remember being asked if I was 'raised in a barn' when I was little. I didn't think that sounded appealing then, but now I was wondering if it would've prepared me better. If I had been raised by wolves, I probably would've known how to just use my tongue. But no, no wolves, no barns, just me and a water bottle trying to figure that one out. I guessed it worked out alright, I managed to look like I had merely been run over by a small truck, rather than a freight train. "
